The LSU women's basketball team wasn't on the court for the national anthem prior to Monday night's Elite Eight contest against Iowa, and some on social media criticized Kim Mulkey's team for their absence.

After the game, Mulkey responded with an explanation on why her team was missing while Iowa was on the court for the anthem.

"Honestly, I don't even know when the anthem was played. We kind of a routine where we're on the floor and then they come off at the 12-minute mark," Mulkey said. "I don't know ... we come in and we do our pregame stuff. I'm sorry ... Listen, that's nothing intentionally done."

Neither the USC or UConn teams were on the court for the national anthem prior to the other Elite Eight game on Monday night.?

With Caitlin Clark scoring 41 points for Iowa, the Hawkeyes ended LSU's season in a 94-87 game in Albany, New York.

It was an emotional postgame press conference for Mulkey and her Tigers with players like Angel Reese and Flau'jae Johnson shedding tears.
