A car thief shot a man who had tracked his stolen vehicle from Old Aurora to the Touro area and tried to retrieve it Saturday evening, New Orleans police said.

The alleged victim reported the vehicle stolen about 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the 4300 block of Maple Leaf Drive in Old Aurora. He tracked the stolen vehicle to the Touro area through the Apple AirPods he'd left inside, police said.?

The victim was driven to the 3500 block of Prytania Street, where he saw his vehicle and several men standing around it, police said. He confronted the group around 10:12 p.m. A suspect shot him, grazing his left shoulder. The victim went by private conveyance to a hospital, police said

Non-fatal shootings are down 31% in the city compared to this time last year, according to police. As of last week, 152 people had been shot and survived in Orleans Parish, compared to 237 people by the same date last year.
