We finally know who will roll with the Stones during the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

In addition to the previously announced Rolling Stones, the Jazz Fest roster includes Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, the Killers, Anderson.Paak & the Free Nationals, Queen Latifah, Hozier, Earth, Wind & Fire, Vampire Weekend, Fantasia, Greta Van Fleet, Bonnie Raitt, Heart and Widespread Panic.

Jon Batiste, the Revivalists and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, all of whom have achieved national stardom, are among the hundreds of native New Orleans and Louisiana acts that make up the bulk of the festival roster.

The 53nd edition of what is officially the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell encompasses two four-day weekends at the Fair Grounds, April 25-28 and May 2-5, filling 14 stages each day.

This year’s festival spotlights the music and culture of Colombia. Seventeen Colombian bands, as well as Indigenous and Afro-Colombian artisans, will be featured at the festival’s newly rechristened Expedia Cultural Exchange Pavilion and elsewhere.

The 2024 Jazz Fest will also celebrate Jimmy Buffett, a frequent performer and longtime friend of the festival who died Sept. 1 at age 76 of a rare form of skin cancer. Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, augmented by special guests, is set to perform on the closing Sunday, May 5.

This year’s first-time headliners include modern rock band the Killers, classic rock sister act Heart, throwback rock band Greta Van Fleet and rapper, singer and drummer Anderson.Paak, teamed as he often is with R&B band the Free Nationals.

Foo Fighters is the last marquee band from the COVID-canceled Jazz Fests in 2020 and 2021 to get a make-up date. Dave Grohl and company, who first played Jazz Fest on a steamy afternoon in 2012, were initially rebooked for 2022, only to drop out following drummer Taylor Hawkins’ death.

Essence Fest producers announce $280 million economic impact in 2018 - report

Singer/actress Queen Latifah starred in the popular 2017 movie 'Girls Trip,' which included a fictional visit to the Essence Festival and contributed to the success of the 2018 event.

Several members of the band, including Grohl, accompanied Hawkins’ widow to New Orleans to watch the Red Hot Chili Peppers fill in for the Foo Fighters at the Fair Grounds.

Neil Young previously rocked Jazz Fest in 2016, backed by Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. He also appeared at the festival in 2009.

Other noteworthy “visiting” acts within the 2024 lineup include R&B singers Kem and Jeffrey Osborne, guitarists Joe Bonamassa, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Robert Cray and George Thorogood, jazz pianist Kenny Barron, jazz saxophonist Charles Lloyd, roots music singers and multi-instrumentalists Allison Russell, Rhiannon Giddens and Molly Tuttle, banjoist Bela Fleck and reggae veterans Stephen Marley and Steel Pulse.

The Wallflowers, Nickel Creek, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the current incarnation of the Beach Boys, another holdover from 2020, are also on the bill.

Thursday’s official announcement only listed the acts by weekend. Some artists subsequently revealed their specific performance days.

Jam band Widespread Panic, a veteran of many previous Jazz Fests, is scheduled for the opening Thursday, April 25. That is this year’s “Locals Thursday,” for which Louisiana residents can purchase tickets for $50 apiece. Those “Locals Thursday” tickets are not yet on sale.

Jon Batiste, who delivered an ambitious and acclaimed set during the 2023 Jazz Fest, is slated for Friday, April 26.

Stapleton is one of country music’s most popular and respected singers. He previously appeared at Jazz Fest in 2019.

Heart will play on April 28.

New Orleans-based guitarist and singer Samantha Fish is slated for Thursday, May 2. She’ll be on the same day, and possibly the same stage, as the Rolling Stones – just as she was scheduled to be in 2019, before the Stones canceled for Mick Jagger to have heart surgery.

Hozier returns to the Fair Grounds on Friday, May 3. He previously performed at the Gentilly Stage in 2015.

Jazz Fest has expanded its ticketing options, in part to account for the premium-priced second Thursday headlined by the Rolling Stones.

A new, four-day “general admission-plus,” or GA+, weekend pass grants access to a lounge with shade, private restrooms and a full-service bar.

Chris Stapleton performs on the Acura Stage during the 50th annual Jazz Fest at the fairgrounds in New Orleans, La. Friday, May 3, 2019.

“Regular” general admission weekend passes for the second weekend include a three-day pass good for Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5. A four-day second weekend pass that includes the Rolling Stones Thursday is more expensive, and available in limited supply.

Single-day day tickets for Rolling Stones Thursday are also on sale. Single-day tickets for the other festival days will go on sale in February, presumably after the day-by-day roster is announced.

Tickets, including numerous VIP options, are available at www.nojazzfest.com.

The 50th anniversary Jazz Fest in 2019 was, like the upcoming festival, an eight-day fest. Attendance in 2019 was 475,000, the largest total since Hurricane Katrina.

Following the COVID-canceled years in 2020 and 2021, attendance reached 475,000 again in 2022 during a seven-day festival.

Attendance dipped slightly to 460,000 in 2023, after rain soaked the festival on both Saturdays.

Jazz Fest is owned by the non-profit New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, which uses proceeds to fund an array of cultural and educational initiatives, as well as smaller, free festivals.

The festival is produced by Quint Davis and his Festival Productions Inc.-New Orleans in partnership with international live entertainment powerhouse AEG Presents.
