New Orleans City Hall was evacuated due to a gas leak Wednesday just before 3 p.m., Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration said in a press release.?
Workers were dismissed from conducting their duties in-person at the Perdido Street building downtown Wednesday, and a fire truck was parked in front of the building at about 3:30 p.m.
Department heads were authorized to allow employees to work from home starting at 3 p.m. or to work extended hours on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Employees can also charge the hours missed as civil leave, according to the email.?
City officials are expected to return to work as normal Thursday, the email said.
Officials added that the New Orleans Fire Department didn't find anything specific at the location and that updates will be provided as more information is available. No injuries were reported.
