Lafreniere Park in Metairie becomes a winter wonderland of lights this month as Jefferson Parish kicks off its annual public holiday display.

Christmas in Lafreniere Park is one of the largest of the many holiday events in the metro area.

The display opens Sunday (Dec. 1). Ablaze with more than 10 million LED lights, the drive-through display features elaborate decorations and festive lighted displays like a Hot Wheels display, a Hello Kitty figure and new animal hanging ornaments.

Old favorites include a lighted 60-foot Sea Serpent in the lagoon, a princess in her magical castle and the gingerbread man. There is also a walk-through exhibit.
